Become More Effective, Efficient, & Enduring In Your Service
Do you feel helpless in the face of someone’s addiction? Are you frustrated by constantly having to find the “right” place in scripture to relate to their situation? Ever feel burnt out or alone on this path to help others heal?
That’s why we created the Chaplain Toolkit, so you can STOP:
Wondering why someone is stuck in their recovery.
Feeling helpless to get through them in their time of need.
Spending hours putting together visit plans or losing valuable minutes while you try to find a relevant passage in a session.
Dealing with exhaustion from walking this path alone without clear evidence you’re making a difference.
Instead, with the Chaplain Toolkit, you will:
Break through old identities and create opportunities for real vulnerability and transformation.
Come prepared with gospel-centered visit plans based on real pastoral insight.
Save dozens of hours of preparation and stay in the moment during your visits as you follow the plan.
Get support from a community of other chaplains, pastors, clinicians, and ministry members doing the same kind of work.
Facilitators & Ministry Members See Real Change
Based On Decades of Hard-Earned Experience
Jason Jonker has spent over 30 years walking alongside people struggling with addiction. He has served as a licensed therapist, clinical director, regional director, and vice president of a behavioral health agency.
He holds a Master's degree in Human Development and Family Studies from ASU and has completed the WELS Chaplain Certificate program. He currently serves as chair of the mental health committee of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod’s Commission on Special Ministries.
Five years ago, he launched Resilient Recovery Ministries, a ministry dedicated to holding Bible studies on addiction, where shame's power is defeated through Christ. He still facilitates as many 4 Resilient Recovery Bible studies per week in prison, church, and online.
He authored the Resilient Recovery Workbook, co-authored a research study on the program's effectiveness, has a forthcoming publication on retention strategies in recovery ministry, and co-edited an upcoming devotional to be published by Northwestern Publishing House.
Jason is blessed with a wonderful wife and three adult daughters. He plays guitar and mandolin in a bluegrass band, and he enjoys fishing for bass and trout because it allows him to enjoy the outdoors, and once in a great while, he actually catches a fish.

Address The Spiritual Needs No One Else Can
The stats are clear. 87% of people in recovery want more spiritual content. In a study conducted by Alcohol Research Group (ARG), they found that 95% of alumni from various treatment groups said, “Feeling connected to a spiritual being or force that helps me deal with difficulties in life” helped them in recovery.
A 2025 study in the Journal of Health Care Chaplaincy surveyed 151 VA chaplains who were already providing addiction-related care, most of them weekly.
The study found that the chaplains most effective in addiction care were those who could sit with uncertainty and not rush to provide answers.
You don’t need to fix the addiction. You don’t have to be an expert in substance use disorders. You just follow the simple format of the Bible study and let them do most of the talking.
And this is a critical gap in the care many people receive. The physician has a protocol. The counselor works on goals and coping skills. The social worker has a referral network.
