Resilient Conversations

It all begins with an idea.

(See Raymond’s story below)

  • A mother of two young children wonders out loud if staying sober is worth it, given the mess she’s made of her life.

  • A participant calls me from jail, asking for a prayer of safety and strength as he prepares to face old warrants.

  • A recovering alcoholic struggles to speak after reading a passage about God’s great love for him. He believes—but can’t quite accept—that God could love him that much. All he can do is shake his head in wonder.

  • In prison, a woman bravely asks the group if they feel as frustrated as she does about falling back into old patterns. She’s lifted by the loving responses of her fellow inmates, reassured that it will get better.

  • A prisoner’s face lights up with a beaming smile when she hears her friend is selected for the next round of the Resilient Bible Study. “I know it’ll help her like it helped me!”

  • A volunteer proudly shares that his weekly Resilient meeting at a recovery home is having such an impact that a group of men walks over from another home just to join in.

Our volunteers and I love to be present for these conversations. It is a privilege to be a listening ear and a source of comfort and guidance in such discussions.

Your gifts make these conversations possible.

I’m deeply grateful for your help, which allows me and our volunteers to be present for these crucial moments.

THANK YOU!

Our ministry is one of presence and listening. We work alongside treatment providers and prisons to help addicts have some of the most meaningful conversations of their lives. We take every opportunity to point addicts toward the life-transforming power of the Gospel.

A Deeper Look at Raymond’s Resilient Conversation

Raymond’s last relapse

After his latest relapse, I visited with Raymond privately, and we developed the lesson below.

The first page captured his sadness and guilt, helping him feel heard and understood. The second page pointed him away from his failings and to the kindness of the Savior.

He had a hand in developing the whole lesson—choosing the Bible verses, writing his story, developing the questions, and crafting a gospel message to encourage himself.

He hasn’t stopped mentioning how powerful the finished product is to him.

I hope this post will give my support team a glimpse into how your support provides extraordinary encouragement to addicts when they need it the most.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
