Someone you’ve never met will be sitting in a Resilient Recovery Bible study for the first time.
They’re wondering if there is something wrong with them.
Will I ever get sober?
Do I fit in with regular church people?
Could these people really accept me?
What they need most is not answers — it’s a welcome.
Your church, school, or small group can be that welcome. We’ll send you clear, step-by-step instructions to get started, or, for a small fee, a ready-to-use kit with everything you need.
Many newcomers arrive at Resilient having just left homelessness, with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Others are living in sober living homes that don’t provide fresh, personal hygiene items.
Your group can change that.
By assembling welcome backpacks, you make sure their first night includes the ordinary things that make a hard week survivable: a toothbrush, soap, shampoo, socks — and a few basics that say, “We expected you.”
It’s a practical, one-evening project for a Bible study or classroom.
This activity is done quarterly at our Church office. Contact us to learn about joining the next assembly day.
Many men and women leave treatment and realize they don’t know how to live a normal Tuesday.
They can stay sober for a week.
But they can’t yet manage bills, transportation, or free time.
They are one bad day away from sliding back into old patterns and old lives.
A Resilient mentor is a steady Christian who walks with them into ordinary life.
The WELS Mentoring the Returning Citizen project will train you for that work.
Resilient will support you as you do it.
And we help you discern whether mentoring is a good fit for you right now.
Every week, real people bring real requests into a Resilient Recovery Bible study.
Some are asking for courage to tell the truth.
Some are asking for help making a hard phone call.
Some are asking for the strength to keep showing up.
Your prayers matter there.
By joining the Resilient prayer team, you carry those requests before God when the meeting is over and the room is quiet again.
We send the requests to you by email.
You pray.
That’s the work.
It’s a simple way to serve from a distance and still take part in what God is doing.
